Carlfriedrich Claus Rolf-Herrmann Geller Gabriele Juppe Alojzy Oborny | His schematic compositions reach deep into our subconscious, transcend the real world. If one could make X-rays of human emotions, they would look like the figures in Colmar's pictures, which sometimes recall associations with the enormous mannerist imaginations of El Greco, then again remind one of the polar opposite, the pre-impressionist landscapes of William Turner. These are landscapes that the artist does not see with his eyes, for they are hidden deep in the depths of his soul. Strangely spiritualized beings appear as a frequent motive in his work; shaped from a pulsating material that seems to take on form on its own, they are an accurate depiction of the sphere of emotions. One can hardly avoid thinking of the great canvass of the Spanish master Francisco Goya, "Ravages of War" (Los Desastres de la Guerra). |
